Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates has pledged to donate the vast majority of his staggering $200 billion fortune to improving health and education across Africa. Inspired by Andrew Carnegie’s “The Gospel of Wealth,” Gates plans to dedicate his wealth to make a lasting impact. By 2045, the year his foundation is set to wind down its operations, Gates aims to have given away 99% of his estimated fortune.

Since its launch in 2000, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has already disbursed over $100 billion. Gates reiterated his commitment to improving health and education services in Africa during a recent speech at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa. He emphasized the progress Africa has made in reducing child deaths and outlined his plans to further enhance these sectors over the next 20 years.

Speaking to the press, Gates stated, “Africa holds immense potential, and by investing in health and education, we can unlock opportunities for future generations. I am confident that our partnership with African governments will lead to significant advancements in these crucial areas.”
