Minneapolis Restaurant and St. Paul Chef Win Big at 2025 James Beard Awards
A Minneapolis restaurant and a St. Paul chef are celebrating big wins from the prestigious James Beard Awards. Bûcheron has been crowned Best New Restaurant, while Karyn Tomlinson of Myriel has been named Best Chef: Midwest during a star-studded ceremony at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

The 2025 James Beard Awards saw Minnesotans taking top honors, with Chef Karyn Tomlinson of St. Paul’s Myriel seizing the title of Best Chef Midwest. The event was co-hosted by celebrity chefs Nyesha Arrington and Minnesota’s own Andrew Zimmern.

Bûcheron, located on Nicollet Avenue in Minneapolis, impressed judges to secure the award for Best New Restaurant. Meanwhile, Chef Karyn Tomlinson of Myriel in St. Paul made history by becoming the first St. Paul chef to win the prestigious culinary prize for Best Chef Midwest.
