Aviation Regulator Warns Air India Over Safety Lapses
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in India has issued formal warnings to Air India following a safety investigation revealing significant lapses in safety protocols. The warning notices and investigation report, reviewed by Reuters, uncovered that three of Air India’s Airbus jets were flown despite overdue inspections of emergency escape slides, raising serious concerns about the airline’s safety standards.
In one alarming incident, an engineer inadvertently deployed an escape slide during maintenance, highlighting the unchecked safety hazards present within the airline. These safety breaches have prompted the regulator to take action and issue warnings to Air India.
The safety alert comes on the heels of a recent crash involving an Air India Boeing 787-8 plane that tragically resulted in the loss of all but one of the 242 individuals on board. While the safety lapses highlighted in the investigation were not directly linked to the crash, they underscore the urgent need for enhanced safety measures within the aviation industry.
Despite the warnings and heightened scrutiny, Air India continues to face challenges in upholding safety regulations, raising concerns among passengers and aviation authorities alike.
