Israel’s Strikes on Iran Have Direct Impacts on Nuclear Site, UN Confirms

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the United Nation’s atomic watchdog, has revealed that Israel’s recent strikes on Iran have had direct impacts on the underground enrichment halls at the Natanz nuclear site.

The underground enrichment halls at Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility, which is located approximately 220 kilometers southeast of Tehran, were targeted by Israel in a series of airstrikes. The facility, strategically built on Iran’s Central Plateau, has sections that are buried deep underground to protect against potential attacks.

The IAEA shared its findings on Tuesday, stating that detailed analysis of high-resolution satellite images showed direct impacts on the underground sections of the Natanz nuclear site following the Israeli strikes.

Furthermore, the IAEA confirmed on Wednesday that Israeli airstrikes hit two of Iran’s key nuclear centrifuge production sites, further impacting the country’s nuclear program. The agency believes that the strikes on Natanz’s enrichment site have directly affected the facility’s underground centrifuge halls, highlighting the severity of the damage caused.

Given the underground nature of the site, Israel may have used a powerful weapon such as the GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrator, a bunker-busting bomb weighing 30,000 pounds, to target and eliminate the deeply buried facility.

The recent developments at the Natanz nuclear site underscore the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, with the UN confirming the direct consequences of the Israeli airstrikes on Iran’s main enrichment facility. The ongoing situation is part of ‘Operation Rising Lion,’ a military campaign targeting Tehran’s nuclear capabilities.
