Israeli Hostages’ Bodies Recovered from Gaza in Hamas-Led Attack
The Israeli military has identified the remains of Yonatan Samerano, 21; Ofra Keidar, 70; and Shay Levinson, 19. Hamas still holds 50 hostages, with less than half believed to be alive.
The bodies of three slain hostages – Ofra Keidar, Jonathan Samerano, and Staff Sgt. Shay Levinson – were recovered in a joint military and Shin Bet operation from the Gaza Strip, the IDF announced. This recovery comes after Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack into Israel that sparked the ongoing war in the region.
Israel said Sunday that it has recovered the bodies of three more hostages taken in the October 7 attacks that ignited the 20-month-long conflict in the Gaza Strip. The operation, carried out by the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) and the Israel Defense Forces, brought back the remains of the hostages.
Ofra Keidar was among those kidnapped by Hamas during the October 7 attacks. The bodies of the two other hostages, Yonatan Samerano and Shay Levinson, were also found in the recovery operation in Gaza. This recovery operation further underscores the intensifying tensions and violence between Israel and Hamas.
