Xbox Series X|S Owners Only Get Digital Games for Upcoming Titles on PS5
If you’re an Xbox Series X|S owner, get ready for a digital-only experience when it comes to three major game releases that will also have physical editions on the PlayStation 5. Xbox has made the decision to skip physical disc releases for its upcoming first-party games, opting for digital-only versions, while the PlayStation 5 will have disc editions available.
Xbox Goes All-Digital
The Outer Worlds 2, set to release on June 10, 2025, will be Xbox’s first $80 game with only physical releases for the PS5. This move raises questions about Xbox’s new pricing strategy and its future plans for going all-digital with its game releases. Xbox versions of the games will only include a digital code, removing the incentive for Xbox users to purchase physical editions.
Concerns of Xbox Fans
Fans of Xbox games, such as Gears of War: Reloaded, are now able to pre-order physical editions on the PS5. However, there are concerns about the amount of data required for these physical releases. With multiple generations of backward compatibility on modern Xbox platforms, physical game collectors are looking for games that work seamlessly between consoles.
Exciting Game Features
Forza Horizon 5, a highly anticipated title for the Xbox Series X/S, will be the fifth Xbox-published game to come to the PS5 in 2025. While Xbox users may miss out on physical editions for The Outer Worlds 2, Ninja Gaiden 4, and Gears of War: Reloaded, PS5 gamers will have access to physical editions of all three games.
New Xbox Games Coming to PS5
In addition to the upcoming titles, Xbox’s Age Of Mythology: Retold and Age Of Empires 2: Definitive Edition will also be making their way to the PlayStation 5 this year, offering a variety of gaming options for PS5 users.
